Fight: An Immersive AR Performance
I was among the 7 animators selected to participate in a Hand Drawn VR masterclass as part of the Kaboom Festival in Amsterdam.
Along with training by LavaMachine in applying the technology itself, a number of AR, VR and mixed media artists gave talks about their craft and their approach to emerging technologies.
At the end of the week-long masterclass, we had the opportunity to create an AR performance around the words of MMA world champion Marloes Coenen. Having her there in person to explain her own craft of the fight was most inspiring. We designed a performance based on her words, tracing her MMA journey, literally letting her punch the inhibitions, the glares, the patriarchal expectations and all the barriers that had stood on her path before she found her freedom to express herself through the fight..
The performance was exhibited at Kaboom Animation Festival in 2019.
